…the real West is somewhere you never actually get to, it’s always where you’re going.

West of 98: Living and Writing the New American West
An anthology of essays and poetry featuring more than 60 western writers, edited by Lynn Stegner and Russell Rowland
Welcome to the website for West of 98, an anthology featuring sixty-six writers from every state west of the 98th meridian, talking about what it means to them to be a Westerner. This collection is meant to be a touchstone for further discussion about how we identify ourselves as Westerners and how we in the West can continue to find ways to explore our own unique place in American culture. Please visit our table of contents to find your favorite writers from the West, and also check out the roundtable discussion, where some of our contributors further discuss issues that are relevant to today’s West. Please feel free to contribute to this discussion, and of course, order a copy of West of 98: Living and Writing the New American West.
